Heineken Cup

Quins continued their winning streak with 11 on the trot after beating Connaught 25-17, despite a sterling Irish fight back. Jim Staples did not play for neither Quins nor Connaught/ London Irish were pipped 19-20 by Edinburgh after Shontayne Hape gave a way a mindless penalty, which Sean Cox slotted over to seal the win/ Toulouse were eventually too good for Gloucester – 21-17, but apparently Tindall had a blinder, setting up both the Cherry Blossoms tries and a try saving tackle – argh the pres love him again/ Martin Castrogiavanni led the ‘we love the improvement in Italian rugby’, as Leicester thumped Aironi 28-12/ Ronan O’Gara slotted a drop goal in injury time following a 41 phase assault by Munster to pip Northampton 21-20/ Glasgow saw off Bath 26-21 with a last gasp try from Richie Gray, where Stephen Donald said, ‘this brings you back down to earth’/ And John Smit debuted for Sarries by scoring one of their 5 tries to topple Treviso 42-17 – incidentally, Saracens next two ‘home’ games are in Cape Town and Wembley.

Taking odds on England’s triumph in 2015

Magners and the Top 14 are still on hold

Some shorts:

*Joe Worsley’s retired after a bad neck. The crunching back rower for Wasps and England may have best been known for his thumping tackles, but he was also a great pianist.

*And Mike Tindall got fined £25,000 for what, we’re not quite sure yet – perhaps it was getting pissed, which just so happened to have a been a freebie laid on by the RFU!

Some competitions now: If you’d like to take part in fool’s rugby comps check out the comps & results page –win a prize! – I should probably check it myself, as I can’t remember what comps are up for grabs, although I do know John Smit is no longer running his XV – that mantle now goes to Richie McCaw.

A willow the wisp of cricket now:

And now ladies and gentlemen a thribble on the light side:

In the snippets

*The Aussies were whipped by South Africa by 8wickets inside three days at Newlands.

At 21-9 only a 26 run stand between Nathan Lyon and Peter Siddle repaired tidings with a respectable score of 47 all gone. Still it could have been worse and they might all have been back on the boat for 43 I think it was, which was their lowest score back in 1902 - so at least that’s some achievement.

New lad at Newlands Vernon Philander took 5-15, whilst the Morne’s, and Steyn’s gobbled up the rest.

It might be worth noting Clarke did hit a 151* in the first innings, but I doubt it.

*In Kolkata India were 346-5 on Day 1 with Gambhir and Laxman on half tons.

It’s early now and… - I’m done

The team that likes roll mops and partying and belts and rum and temptations and feathers and Steve Finn and proverbs and coordinates and pigeons and tiddly winks and Jessie’s! And spin and the Beatles and Buddy Holly and side-show Bob and Ant and Dec and capes and japes and basketball and indoor cricket and psyche and a good rib-dig and loose ends and first balls and a good roasting, and triple tons and whoa-ha-ha’s and cooking and cradles and Yorkshire puddings…and 2010/11 Ashes, and the Gods

Till next week…
