And their off. Last Saturday saw Trigger's stable first two runners of the season. While Trigger did not recommend backing El Segundo we will now be doing so in every subsequent start. El Segundo was always traveling at the rear of the field in the unsuitable sprint race but flew home to wind up in second place. A sensational performance and augers well for the main targets this season.
Meanwhile in Sydney where we had our first punt of the season we found disappointment. Casino Prince was traveling well in mid field but as they came around the home turn he was carted very wide by another runner. This put paid to his chances because as by the time he settled the others had flown. The horse that I tipped to run second to Casino Prince, My Middi, did in fact run second and paid 7/2 the place.
Our bank balance is down to 475 AUD. This week we will make amends as some of our star performers are making their first appearances this Saturday and I expect some solid collects.
Sydney - Excites is first up in race 6 and carries the number 11 saddle cloth. This horse wan the AJC Sires Produce Stakes last season and is a real prospect. Has had one first up run and did not win but was far from disgraced. While Trigger has suggested that we wait until 1400 meters before having a real dip, this week we will have $5 each way.
Melbourne - Race 4 at Caulfield brings us the Vietnam Veterans Quezette Stakes, a set weights with penalties race for 3YO fillies. Our horse is number 1 in this race and is named De Lago Mist. From the top David Hayes stable Trigger is expecting a bold first up run. $20 the win De Lago Mist.
The next, race 5 has a 3YO colts and geldings race also with set weights with penalties. Two stable horses are entered in this event, number 4 Churchill Downs and number 15 Haradasun. Churchill Downs is our top pick in this race and we are having $15 straight out on him. Haradasun is expected to be at his top over longer distances but can be expected to be running on at the end. His 11 length maiden win was over 1300 metres but we will have a $ 5quinella (first and second in either order) on our two stable stars.
The J.J. Liston Stakes a standard weight for age race over 1400 metres is race 6 on the Caulfield program. Here our Triggers stable has number 6 De Beers, number 7 Red Dazzler and number 14 Serenade Rose. Red Dazzler is the horse best suited by the distance but De Beers is the one who may get under the guard of the other punters and give us a price. Serenade Rose has had three first up runs in her career for a first and a second. Here we will have a multiple trifecta with 6 and 7 to win, 6, 7 and 14 for second and we will throw in 1 and 8 for the minor share of the prize.
May Dame Fortune attend us.
