Well Triggers stable has started the season well and even though we have not had a collect our horses have their hoof on the till.
Last week Trigger suggested that Haradasun may have found the trip too short and that Churchill Downs was the horse to beat. He lead and was only passed by 2 in the straight and fought on well. This run will do him no end of good. In a run that has the racing world abuzz, Haradasun came from the back of the field to win and win convincingly. Our quinella horses ran first and third and we narrowly failed to collect. We can back these two with confidence in subsequent events.
In the 3 YO fillies race our virtual hard earned cash was on the Hayes fill De Lago Mist. This little filly was always near the rear in the run and in the straight was continually blocked for a run. In a great performance she finished on the heels of the place getters and is sure to salute soon.
The Weight For Age race last week at Caulfield saw three of our stables runners take part and with differing results. Red Dazzler was our best runner. RD put the heat on favourite Minson and when that horse capitulated in the straight fought on well only to be beaten narrowly by its real stable mate Pompeii Ruler. I am not really sure what to make of the run by De Beers as he was three wide for the first 400, four wide for the next 500 before dying on his run in the straight. Being caught wide a Caulfield is horrendous for a horse as the home turn is very tight. Let's put De Beers on ice until he appears next. Serenade Rose was disappointing first up but is being set for a mile and a half (2400 m) and will do her best when she steps up to around a mile and a quarter.
Off to Sydney where we had exciting 3 YO colt Excites running for us over an unsuitable sprint distance. This young lad found the pace too hot to handle early on but in the words of race caller Ian Craig "Excites, oh, what an eye catching run. Finished 4th at odds of 10/1 and we will have some fun with this fellow over the coming weeks.
This Saturday we are light on the ground for runners and we need to head to Randwick in Sydney to see some of the stable go around.
Race 7 sees the Warwick Stakes are our horse Eremein carries the number 1 saddle cloth. This 1400 metre event maybe a touch short first up and Eremein has had 5 previous first up runs for a win and a second. However this horse is probably the best horse in Australia and we need to be on as class often prevails. A lazy $10 the win.
Race 8 sees 3 YO filly Gallant Tess resuming in the Silver Shadow Stakes. Gallant Tess will most likely find a couple of these too sharp over the sprint distance but we will watch the race with interest as in Triggers opinion we have a genuine Oaks prospect on our hands. No bet on this one this week.
If you are hungry for a punt this weekend you could do no worse than laying a bit of your hard earned on Spielmeister in Race 7 at Moonee Valley on Saturday. Will not be very long odds but 4 YO from the David Hayes stable has a touch of class over his rivals and should salute. Trigger rates him a 2's on chance.
See you in the betting ring,
Trigger
