Fancy dress dodgers – when fool was a lad fancy dress meant tearing up old clothes and wearing your sister’s tights, some things never change, except footballers, who merry themselves around the Christmas parties in designer outfits trying to look cool.

Fancy dress isn’t meant to be cool; it’s to look like a nana with the sole purpose of glugging down the festive spirit with no inhibitions and making a prat of yourselves. I have no qualms with renting off the shelf or procuring Asian tailor made, but endeavouring to look cool defeats all sense of purpose in letting your nylon wig down to the order of haute coitour in the silly season stakes of sillyness.

This year I think I’ll go as Cher in the sequined see-through number and probably black myself up just for good measure – fancy dress dodgers - Bastards!
