They're at it again! Send in the clowns, now was that a blues song? The final draft of the year was held on Tuesday and while not way in the top news appeared those fumbling fools at Carlton got it wrong again. Not in who they picked but in who they did not pick.
Carlton coach Denis Pagan apparently wanted to select Richmond and Essendon discard Ty Zantuck but they never selected him. Next day it was released to the press that Pagan was over ruled by the committee and then the President Smorgan denies this. Pagan gets on radio and again says he was over ruled by the board and then Smorgo gets on a different radio station and says "no, the board did not overrule him, but maybe the rest of the match committee did".
This one is heading for divorce. Further, Carlton have postponed their AGM to March as in a statement they said they cannot afford an accountant. Well they do have a horrid history of getting the books right.
In other draft news Richmond have selected Geelong discard Kent Kingsley and Richmond supporters are threatening to rip their membership cards up. If I was a member I would do likewise.
It is now official. The International series between the AFL and the Irish has been put off for a period unknown. The Leprechauns are amateur by name and definitely amateur in their administration and fundamentals in business and negotiation.
Next week, as all the teams have know finalized their teams, Digger will start to preview the teams for season 2007. If you footy fans out there want any information from Digger on your favourite team or player just drop me a line. diggerafl@yahoo.com.au
Ben Cousins has been in the news again. Cuz was found by a group of revelers having a kip in a park in the Melbourne CBD. They tried to hide him behind a tree but he woke up and went for a stagger around the streets. Passing police picked him up, threw him in the paddy wagon and young Ben spent 4 hours in the lock up sobering up. The Weagles have been very quiet on this one.
Okay, finally this week Digger is asking for a combined effort from all the CFNR readers to make him famous. All you have to do is send an email to either sportstoday@3aw.com.au or rhorowitz@3aw.com.au and tell Gerard and Dwayne that Digger from Saigon is your favorite AFL blogger in the world and that they need to include his views on their radio show. Digger promises free plugs for the rugby plug if we can get him on the radio.
Footy is only a few months away so get those knitting needles out and start knitting the scarves.
Bye Ashley, see you in the Barossa Valley,
Digger
