SEASON 2008 PREVIEW

Essendon

Round 1 play North Melbourne at the Telstra Dome on March 24th

Premiership Odds:  34/1

Another team under the odds when it comes to winning the flag.  Can a first year coach improve the Bombers who like Collingwood over achieved last year.  Digger reckons not and that it will be a long season for the boys from Windy Hill.  Ricky Dyson should be a key position player this year but the Essendon player to have in your fantasy team is Adam McPhee as he will come forward this year after playing in defence.

Look for the Essendon team to go backwards and finish in 14th position this year.

Fremantle

Round 1 play Collingwood on March 22 at the MCG.

Premiership Odds:  9/1

Well what can you say about the Dockers?  They proved yet again last season that they are consistently inconsistent.  Touted as a good chance to go all the way they again failed to show their true capabilities.  Mark Harvey has hopefully instilled some discipline in them and if so the sky is the limit for Fremantle.  Tattoo you, Des Headland, should have a ripper year and may even be captain.  The Docker to have in your fantasy side is Mark Johnston who is another player who should move forward this year.

Digger sees an improved Fremantle who will finish top four.

Geelong

Round 1 play Port Adelaide, Thursday March the 20th at AAMI Stadium.

Premiership Odds:  9/4

The Cats were unstoppable last year and added lots to the trophy cabinet.  Too bad the food was shit at the bistro when Digger dined there a couple of weeks ago.  Only big headedness can stop the Geelong team from going back to back and the expectations of their supporters may weigh heavily on their minds.  Big youngster Tom Hawkins should become an integral part of this years team and is good value in fantasy comps and kidney boy Tom Lonergan looks to fight his way back into the senior team.

Should go close to taking Premiership honors again in 2008.

Hawthorn

Round 1 play Melbourne on March 23 at the MCG

Premiership Odds:  9/1

Too many players to fit into the forward line is a nice problem o have for the hawthorn boys when Mark Williams returns to compete for a place with Buddy Franklin and Tim Boyle.  However, Digger sees a tough season for the Hawks because he has dreamt about them having a horrible injury struck season.  Another Tuck, Travis has been flying in the pre-season and should sneak into your fantasy side.

Don't know why but I see the hawks only struggling into 10th position on the ladder.
