round four

Last weeks round of matches saw it all.  Huge comebacks, a ripper upset by the Tigers (as tipped by Digger), the further decline of the Weagles and big, bad Barry Hall's k.o. punch.  All up 6 from 8 for Digger last week and a seasons tally of 26 from 32.

Essendon were competitive with the Western Bulldogs for 2 and half quarters until injuries curtailed their challenge.  The Dogs are 4 from 4 this season and look like finals aspirants.

St. Kilda had a great first quarter and then could not match it with Geelong.  The Saints were lucky to only come away with a 7 goal defeat.  Again, Ross Lyons is the wrong man for the Saints.

The North Melbourne's had a win they had to have against Melbourne.  The Demons have yet to trouble the scorer.

Sydney inflicted pain against the Weagles in more ways than one and had what can only be termed a blow out win.  The West Coast are only a shadow of them former selves.  How many players retaliated against Hall.  A grand total of one and a half.

Port Adelaide was leading by 47 points late in the third quarter and was heading for a resounding win.  Brisbane decided to play some football at that point was Port started to coast.  In the end the Brisbane Lions got up by 20 points to demoralise the Powerless.  Will Mr. Smug's neck be on the chopping block soon?

Hawthorn took their time again in disposing of the plucky Ravens in Tassie.  Buddy Franklin can now be considered a true superstar of the competition and the Hawks can challenge Geelong.  Adelaide will win more than they lose.

Carlton had a win when they defeated Collingwood.

And as predicted by Digger, Richmond caused the upset of the round when they thrashed Fremantle by 10 goals.  What is going on in Dockerland?  The axe will fall heavily at selection this week.

Okay, let's get on with this weeks games and see if we can select all 8 winners for you out there in Digger Land.  The first game of the round is on Friday night when St. Kilda and Essendon clash.  Essendon is hard hit by "soft tissue" injuries and will have trouble putting a competitive team on the ground.  Mr. Gadget, Dustin Fletcher will do his best to keep his team in the game but the Saints should prevail.  Memo to Ross Lyon - attack.  The St. Kilda team to get up by 4 goals.

Sydney travel to Geelong and of course will be without their normal full forward.  The Swans struggle at Kardinia Park and this week should see more of the same.  Geelong has 4 of the top 6 possession winners in the league and will take some stopping and the Swans cannot stop them.  Geelong by 5 goals.

Adelaide should have little trouble overcoming the Dockers at AAMI Stadium in Adelaide.  Having said that who knows when it comes to the Dockers.  The Ravens by 4 goals.

In the clash of the round we will see who the real challenger to Geelong will be after the result of the Brisbane V Hawthorn game.  If hawthorn can travel two weeks in a row and knock of the cock a hoop Lions we will know that they are the real deal. I expect a tight one in this game and am tipping the home team, Brisbane, to prevail.

Collingwood, after their shock loss to Carlton last week, host the up and down North Melbourne team.  Digger says get on Brent Harvey for this years Brownlow.  The only thing that will stop him is getting leather poisoning from getting the ball so much.  The Kangas by 5 points in a close one.

In other games, the Western Bulldogs will bring Richmond back down to earth when they beat them on Sunday.  Carlton will have back to back for the first time in eons when they knock off Melbourne and WestCoast should win when the struggling Power flies west.
