Didak...Heath...Collingwood...go the Saintsers!
August, 07th 2008 10:50 AM

There has only been one story in football this week and it has been all about Collingwood bad boys Heath Shaw, Rhys Shaw and Alan Didak.  The boys went on a bender and Heath decided to drive home.  He subsequently crashed into parked cars and blew 0.15 when the coppers put him on the breatho.  He further told both the boys in blue and his Collingwood employers that he had a mate in the car and not Didak as witnesses suggested.  It then comes out that Didak was in the car and Shaw was trying to protect the perennial bad boy.

Talk about making your President, captain and other jokers look foolish.

The up shot is that Heath and Didak suspended for the remainder of the season and will most probably be traded with Rhys getting a 2 week suspension.  Digger reckons there is still more to come out from this story.

Collingwood suffered its third consecutive loss, that would drive you to drink, when the Buddy Franklin show rolled into the MCG last Friday night.  If Buddy was on target he would have kicked at least 12 goals but 8 was enough for the Hawks to steam roll the Magpies.  Sam Mitchell was a ball magnet.

Injury plagued Essendon kept their finals hopes alive with a dogged 16 point win over Melbourne.  A real plodders game that did not do much for Digger.

The Adelaide Ravens did enough to beat Carlton in another plodding game.  Poor Porplyzia got cleaned up again and will most likely miss this weekends game with brain bruising.

Saturday night and Geelong spanked Richmond.  Can the cats make room for Ablett, Chapman and Wojinski in the team.  Scary for other teams.

The North Melbourne team had a win over Brisbane at the ground they rejected.  A disappointing Brisbane need to arc up if they want to play finals.  The kangaroos will now be eyeing 4th spot, the spot no-one seems to want.  A crowd of just over 10,000 turned up but how many of these were freebies.  Give Tassie a team.

Sydney stormed out of the blocks in Canberra but after quarter time the Western Bulldogs fought back and over took the troubling Swans.  Sydney had a huge incentive to tie up fourth spot but could not take it.  Are the Swans gone?  Could be a long season next year.

St. Kilda just got over the Port Power.  Port let slip a solid lead and the Saints played one quarter of footy to win.  Many pundits are now tipping St. Kilda to finish fourth given an east road to the finals.  Digger still thinks they cannot kick enough goals against the good teams.

In the W.A. derby Fremantle had a convincing win over rival West Coast.  The Mentals showed their potential but potential doesn't not win games, application does.  It has been a hard year for the Weagles and the boys appear to be getting in footy trip mode.

So let's have a look at this weeks round of matches.

Geelong will cruise to another victory when the competition leaders meet cellar dwellers Melbourne on Friday night.  Expect a 20 goal plus score for the pussies.

For Carlton to have any chance of playing finals this year they need to knock over the Port Power on Saturday.  Much improved in 2008 Carlton should have the incentive to win this encounter.  Will not be easy for them but Digger predicts a modest win for Carlton.

Hawthorn will beat the Brisbane team and it could be all over for the Lions 2008 season.  How many will Buddy kick this week as he tries to kick the ton of goals for the season.

Buddy watch - 4 games to go, plus finals, and currently on 85 goals.

Can the Collingwood boys redeem their club by beating the St. Kilda lads?  You would think not but stranger things have happened.  St. Kilda should be motivated by the announcement by Robert Harvey that 2008 will be his last year.  Expect this game to be dominated by defence.  St. Kilda, just.

Can Sydney bounce back when they take on the rejuvenated Fremantle.  You would hope so but now that Freo have no pressure on them they will thrive.  Sydney look slow.  In the rounds upset, Freo to win.

North Melbourne host the Western Bulldogs and the Dogs will win a scrappy affair.

Richmond's finals chances hinge on upsetting the Ravens in Adelaide.  Adelaide have a few injury concerns while the Tiger's were not disgraced in their loss last week.  I have been putting my neck out saying Adelaide are pretenders and if I am correct the Tigers should win this game.  Well I am putting the long giraffe neck on the line and tipping a Richmond win.

West Coast versus Essendon.  Cannot see Essendon getting beaten.

Until then,

Digger
