This weeks edition will be somewhat short as Digger is really under the pump. Two of my brothers, one of whom you may know Trigger and the black sheep of the family, Nigger popped in to discuss the Baker and Farmer incident and both had diametrically opposing views. This developed into a real family spat and we had to get a jigger out to separate them. Then the stewards became involved.
Michael Voss may have been involved in a nasty commentary box spat as he saw the incident and forgot what he saw 10 minutes later.
Another Ben Johnson was disgraced this week.
Have I ever told you what an absolute piece of crap the AFL website is?
Onto last weeks matches.
A very ho hum affair between Collingwood and Melbourne. The Magpies winners by 11 points. There were 52 free kicks paid for the game.
Essendon kept their slim finals hopes alive with a 10 point win over a much improved Carlton. There were 30 free kicks paid for the game.
St. Kilda severely dented Fremantle’s finals hope when as Fraser Gehrig inspired Saints won by 5 goals. There were 60 free kicks paid for the game.
An after the siren goal from Jonathan Brown gave Brisbane a draw with Sydney in a low scoring but entertaining game. There were 40 free kicks paid for the game.
A dogged Richmond gave the Weagles a fright before the West Coast ran out 31 point winners. Injuries have struck the Weagles at the wrong time of the season. There were 39 free kicks paid for the game.
Port Adelaide kicked 2 goals in the final minute of their clash against hawthorn to snatch a 5 point win in the Apple Isle. Brett Ebert, who has only 4 letters in his name, kicked the winner. There were 47 free kicks paid for the game.
The Herald Sun website refers to this game as Geelong versus the Kanagroos. Any sub editor out there looking for a job. Anyway, the ‘groos tried to smash Geelong off there game but the Cats prevailed anyway by 27 points. There were 41 free kicks paid in this game.
Adelaide won to continue the Western Bulldogs dismal 2007 and won well by 34 points. The ravens can still make the finals but will need to win both their remaining matches. There were 41 free kicks paid in this game.
The Geelong Falcons beat North Ballarat by 32 points. It would have been harder for them if they had to face all of Ballarat.
Why did Digger mention the free kicks paid. Well the AFL always denies it when commentators and fans reckon there is a rule of the week or that the umpires are instructed to pay more free kicks. Leaving the Essendon game out, the average number of free kicks paid per game last round was 45.7. For all games played prior to the round the average was 32. You work it out.
SHAMELESS PLUG OF THE WEEK
The Saigon Saints are holding their annual Grand Final Brunch again this year and Digger hears on the grapevine that tickets are in hot demand. He also hears that tickets will be available next week so stay tuned for further details. This event is not held by the Vietnam swans.
29th of September at the Legend Hotel with a very special guest, Rod Ashman former Carlton great.
Okay, onto this weeks games.
St. Kilda to continue on with its revival and beat the Weagles at the Dome. Kerr out with a sore finger, wuss, and Judd and Cousins under injury clouds. Saints by 3 goals.
Carlton will be defeated by the Kanagroos on Saturday. The ‘groos need to get their season and game back on track and this will be nothing more than a training run for them. The mob from Arden Street by 7 goals.
Fremantle to record a win over Melbourne at Subiaco. Unless they have a melt down. A 5 goal victory.
Sydney to inflict another loss for Collingwood. Eddie has his hanky ready for the return Nathan Buckley but not even the veterans presence will help the wobbly ‘woods. Sydney by 4 goals.
Toss up in Adelaide when the Ravens host the Brisbane team. Both inconsistent, both rough finals hopes and both world beaters on their days. For me it is Brisbane in a dog fight by 3 points.
The Western Bulldogs and Hawthorn should be a shoot out which means the Hawks will lose again. Sorry, they will win. Hawks by 2 goals.
Geelong to beat Port Adelaide at Kardinia Park and hopefully wipe that stupid grin of Power coach Mark Williams Cats by 5 goals. smug looking face.
Richmond to have another win when they smack Essendon. Tigers for premiers in 2011. A 4 goal win.
Cheers,
Digger
